I AGREE with the editorial title `Rewarding vigilantism` though I do not fully support its contents.
The editorial states: `On Wednesday, an individual who had gunned down two suspects during a robbery attempt targeting him in Karachi a few days ago was given a cash reward and a certificate of appreciation by the Sindh Inspector General of Police.
The writer feels that this was encouraging vigilantism. I disagree with because what the writer calls `vigilantism` is actually `self-defence`. A person who trespasses your house armed with a weapon with intent to kill you if you resist; you have every right to shoot him in self-defence.
Vigilantism is when a mob instead of handing over a robber to the police, lynch him to death by delivering justice on the street. You cannot kill anybody unlawfully.
