Three-day eye moot begins tomorrow

KARACHI: A three-day eye conference of the Ophthalmological Society of Pakistan is set to commence from Friday at a local hotel, officials said.

Themed `Recent Advances in Ophthalmology` the moot is said to be a `landmarl(` occasion for the Pak-China Ophthalmological Forum under the umbrella of China-Pakistan Medical Corridor, a collaboration of Pakistan Medical Association and Chinese Medical Association, as part of the MoU signed last year, organisers said.

They said pre-conference workshops would begin on Thursday (today) at Aga Khan Hospital, while the conference would formally commence from Friday at a hotel wherein over 26 instruction courses, 30 symposia, plenary and scientific sessions covering all important subjects of ophthalmology would be held during the coming three days.

About 75 national speakers and 16 international speakers will deliver lectures and presentations in which they would share their experiences and skillsin various fields of ophthalmology for the benefit of more than 1,000 expected delegates from across the country and abroad.

A scientific exhibition of modern high-tech equipment and instruments from local and international brands will provide an opportunity for delegates to see and take demos under one roof. Some companies will set up wet labs for hands-on training of surgical procedures for young trainee ophthalmologists.

`This conference will be an excellent forum for the eye care service providers to enhance their knowledge and skills for the ultimate benefit of patients, and to plan new strategies based on need assessment for future healthcare facilities at the national level,` said an organiser.

The overseas speakers included a delegation of 11 Chinese ophthalmologists headed by Dr Keqin Rao, vice president and secretary general of the Chinese Medical Association; while Prof Shahid Hasan from Malaysia will conduct medical education symposium.

Dr Mujtaba Qazi and other ophthalmologists from USA, UK and Austria will also attend the moot.
