Pipeline damage stokes sewage scare

By Our Correspondent 2017-08-17
BAHAWALPUR: A portion of the boundary wall of Tibba Badar Shair`s main graveyard collapsed owing to sewage accumulation on Wednesday after an eightfoot underground pipeline burst.

The sewage plagued a major portion of the graveyard and the wall collapse panicked the people residing nearby. They expressed apprehension that the sewage, if not timely controlled, could seep into their abodes especially those made of mud.

`The project was completed a few years ago but has proved a waste of money,` said a resident.

Some people said about 50-foot crater had been noticed on the road and they had asked the municipal officials to take immediate measures to plug the pipeline and save dwellings.

Municipal Corporation Mayor Ageel Najam Hashmi said he had dispatched two repeater engines to drain the sewage out of the road and the graveyard.

SOLAR PARK: PPP South Punjab President Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood, General Secretary Ms Natasha Daultana and other officebearers have opposed the Punjab government`s move to `outsource` the Quaid-iAzam Solar Park (QASP).
