SIALKOT: Rescue 1122 divers kept looking for a young girl for three hours in the gushing currents of the Bedian-RaviBumbanwala (BRB) Canal near Malhiyaanwala village, Daska, on Wednesday, who actually staged a suicide drama to avoid engagement.
Some locals called Rescue 1122, claiming that a 16-year-old girl, Zarqa Aslam, a resident of Malhiyanwala village, had drowned herself in the canal.
When the rescuers arrived at the spot, they came to know that none of the locals had actually seen the girl jumping intothe canal.
However, the locals claimed that the girl had told them that she was going to drown herself.
The Rescue divers launched a searchfor the girl in the canal that lastedfor three hours, but to no avail.
While the divers were still busy looking for the girl, some residents of the village told Zarqa`s family that they had seen her in Daska a short while ago.
After the family shared the information with the rescuers, they called off the search operation.
According to sources close to the family, the girl had staged `suicide` drama only to show her resentment against her forced engagement.
