13 KU students booked for attacking PTI MPAs

KARACHI: Police have registered a case against over a dozen students and activists belonging to student wings of some political parties who allegedly attacked Pakistan Tehreeki-Insaf`s (PTI) two newly elected members of Sindh Assembly and people with them during their visit to Karachi University (KU) on Aug 14.
According to Malir SSP Munir Ahmed Shaikh, the attackers damaged glasses of the MPAs` vehicle, used abusive language against them and beat one oftheir associates.
MPAs Arsalan Taj and Adeel Ahmed visited the university on invi-tation of KU Vice Chancellor Dr Ajmal Khan.
According to the complaint lodged by Mr Taj with the police, when he and people with him came out from the office of the vice chancellor after holding a meeting with him a group of around 30 to 35 students misbehaved with them and used abusive language.
The MPAs then moved towards a canteen. After a few moments when they were sitting in their vehicle the same students came again and one of them hit the glasses of the vehicle with an iron rod.
According to the FIR, the attackers belonged to Imamia Students Organisation (ISO), Peoples StudentsFederation (PSF) and Islami Jamiat-iTalaba (IJT).
The complainant alleged that some of the attackers forcibly took one of the men with them to a room and subjected him to torture. They later released him.
Mr Taj said he contacted an official of Rangers on phone af ter which some personnel of the paramilitary force reached the spot and controlled the situation.
The SSP said the PTI legislator had nominated 13 people in the FIR. Nine of them belong to ISO and four PSF.
The case has been registered under sections 147, 148, 149, 506-B, 427, 342 and 504 of Pakistan Penal Code.
No arrest has so far been made.
