Girls outshine boys in Hyderabad SSC results

HYDERABAD: Girls clinched all the top three positions in the science group while the ñrst class ñrst position of the general group also went to a girl in the annual examinations 2018 of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Part-II (matriculation) held by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Hyderabad, which announced results of the science and general groups on Thursday.

BISE Hyderabad announced the results of 10 districts, including Hyderabad, Matiari, Jamshoro, Tando Mohammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Sujawal, Thatta, Shaheed Benazirabad, Badin and Dadu.

Addressing a programme held at the board office, BISE Chairman Dr MohammadMemon and controller of examination Dr Masroor Ahmed Zai highlighted efforts of the board during conduct of the examinations and called for stopping copy culture in society.

Unless quality of education was improved at the school and college levels, it would be difficult to eliminate cheating, they said.

`Those who are friends of copy culture are traitors of education,` said the deputy director colleges, Ali Ahmed Jamali.

All top position holders of the science group complained about cheating in the examinations.

There were poor arrangements in government and private schools as candidates had to undergo problems throughout the exams, they said.

In science group, Ume Rooman and Sonal Fatima, both students of Hayat Girls HigherSecondary School Saddar Hyderabad, grabbed the first and second positions with 749 and 746 out of the total 850 marks respectively. The third position went to Muskan Fatima, student of communitybased High School Tando Mohammad Khan with 744 marks.

A total of 54,843 candidates, including 33,370 boys and 21,473 girls, passed the exams. Of them 3,019 secured grade A-1; 15,878 grade-A; 20,187 grade-B; 12,712 grade-C; 2,985 grade-D and 27 grade-E. A total passing percentage was 83.86 while 65,756 candidates, including 41,617 boys and 24,139 girls, were registered with the board. Of the total 65,398 appeared in the exams, 358 remained absent and 9,994 failed.

In general group, Saba Siddiqui, student of the Government High School Halepotavia Phulelli Hyderabad, obtained the first position by getting 651 marks.

The second and third positions went to Mohammad Farhan Baig and Noor Mohammad, students of Excellent High School Hirabad Hyderabad and S.M. Shah Agha Khan Government (P) H/S Sultanabad Tando Allahyar as they got 628 and 626 marks respectively.

A total of 1,708 candidates, including 1,201 boys and 507 girls, were declared passed.

None sec ure d grade A-1 while 59 obtained grade-A; 563 grade-B; 828 grade-C; 249 grade-D and nine grade-E. The overall passing percentage remained 75.18.

Total 2,351 candidates were enrolled in the board, 2,272 appeared, 79 remained absent and 397 failed in the examinations.
