Man gets life sentence for killing wife

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The additional district and sessions judge-I, Iftikhar Ahmad Mehmand, on Saturday, sentenced an accused to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 500,000 for killing his wife in Green Town Grid Road, Dera Ismail Khan.

The court also sentenced the convict to an additional three years of imprisonment for possessing an illegal pistol, which was used in the crime.

The incident occurred on September 28, 2022, when the accused, Muhammad Jalil, shot his wife dead due to domestic disputes.

The police, led by SHO CanttGul Sher Khan and investigation officer Sub-Inspector Habib Khan, arrested the accused from his ancestral area, Zakori Cemetery, using modern scientific and technical means.

During the investigation, the accused confessed to the crime, and a 30-bore pistol and five cartridges were recovered from his possession.

The incident occurred in the presence of the victim`s brother.

According to the FIR registered at the cantonment police station, the complainant, Ainullah Betani, allegedthat he, his 17-year-old brother, Alam Jan Betani, and their friend, Ghainullah Mahsud, were traveling on a motorcycle when the suspects, Mumraiz and Rafiq alias Rafiuallah, opened fire on them.

Mumraiz allegedly shot Alam Jan Betani, who succumbed to his injuries.

The motive behind the murder is reportedly a previous enmity.

The police have registered a case against the suspects and are investigating the matter.

The incident highlights the growing violence and lawlessness in the region.

SOLIDARITY WITH FLOOD VICTIMS: The Dera High Court Bar Association held an emergency meeting toexpress solidarity with the victims of the recent floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in Buner, Swat, Dir, and Shangla districts.

The bar association expressed deep sorrow and sympathy with the affected families and urged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, federal government, and relevant authorities to expedite relief efforts.

They demanded that the affected districts be declared disaster zones and immediate financial packages be announced to help the victims rebuild their lives.

The association appealed to the lawyers` community and philanthropists to come forward and provide assistance to the affected people.
