MINGORA, Sept 16: A peace volunteer was shot dead in Takhtaband area on Monday, police said.

Unidentified gunmen fired at Dr Rahmat Ghani, chairman of a village defence committee, near his house in Takhtaband area, around 2km from Mingora. He died while being shifted to hospital.

Swat District Police Officer Sher Akbar Khan told Dawn that a search operation had been launched in the area to arrest the killers.
