Karak villagers threaten protest against water shortage

KARAK: The residents of Drab Kallay, Tarkhakoi and adjacent villages have threatened to take to streets if the authorities fail to resolve the issue of shortage of drinking water in the area within 10 days.
Addressing a meeting, held at Tarkhakoi village here on Wednesday with Dil Nawaz Khattak in the chair, the local elders said that there were five tubewells for Tarkhakoi, Draba Kallay, Mechar Banda, Sraykhwa and other adjacent localities but the all drinking water supply schemes were faulty.
They said that the residents of the area were getting drinking water from a private tubewell by paying to its owner.
They said that one gallon of drinking water cost them Rs10, which was a burden on the poor people.

The meeting set a 10-day deadline for the authorities to resolve the problem drinking water shortage in the area.
Theythreatened tostageprotestafterthe expiryofthe deadline. The men and women of the area would participate in the protest, they said.
ENROLMENT CAMPAIGN: An awareness walk was held in Karak city to enroll all out-of-school children in the district.
The walk, led by ADO Faizullah Jan Khattak, was participated by a large number of teachers and students. The participants of the walk were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans about the importance of education.
