LAHORE: The Lahore Arts Council (LAC) will hold a grand musical evening on Sept 22 to pay tribute to ace singers of the country.
The tribute will be paid to melody queens Nur Jahan, Farida Khanum, Iqbal Bano and Nayyara Noor. The event will be held at Alhamra. The singers will be Sara Raza Khan and Tarranum Naz.
MUSEUM: In a recent decision by the council management, the Alhamra Art Museum at Alhamra Cultural Complex, Gaddafi Stadium, will remain open the whole week.
This step has been taken to promote art and artists. With this move, visual art lovers will be able to visit the museum on Saturdays and Sundays as well.
The Alhamra Art Museum has many precious artworks by internationally known visual artists of Pakistan. However, many art critics say the museum has not been highlighted by the councilas it should have been. In the past, there was a proposal to launch a coffee table book based on the artworks placed in the museum, however, this could not be materialized.
The Alhamra Art Museum was earlier called Permanent Art Gallery, however, its name was changed later.
The decision of opening the museum on Saturdays and Sundays was taken after LAC Executive Director Muhammad Rafiullah visited the premises and found the cleanliness of the complex compromised and some of the staff absent. He also termed the condition of the Alhamra Academy of Performing Art classes taking place at the Cultural Complex as unsatisfactory.
He ordered the installation of a biometric system at both cultural venues of LAC Alhamra on The Mall and Alhamra Cultural Complex, Gaddafi Stadium. It was decided in a meeting that the employees of Alhamra would mark their attendance through the biometric system.
