BAJAUR: Students of Government Degree College for boys Nawagai on Monday blocked the main BajaurPeshawar road in protest against the withdrawal of police security from the institution by the district administration and lack of science laboratories in the college.

The protesting students, who chanted slogans in favour of their demands, came out of the college building located along the BajaurPeshawar highway in Zoor Bandar area and blocked the artery for more than an hour.

The protesting students, who were said to be in hundreds, alleged that there were no security arrangements and science laboratories in the institution.

Moreover, they said that the students had no access to the computer system and the computer lab was also non-functional.

The students mentioned that there were about three police men on the college for security duties, but the district authorities had withdrawn them a month ago. Thestudents demanded of the provincial government and the district administration to resolve their issues without further delay or they would be compelled to stage more protest demonstrations.

According to a statement issued from the deputy commissioner`s office in Khar, the protesting students opted to end their protest after a team of district administration officials met with them and assured them to address their issues within a week.

POLICE CRACKDOWN: Local police impounded several motorcycles for not having valid registration documents.

The motorbikes were impounded during a crackdown conducted in different areas of the district, said a police statement.

The statement said the action was meant to avoid any unpleasant incident in the district as unregistered motorcycles were considered serious threat to the law and order situation.

It stated that several check points were established in different areas where the police officials strictly checked the legal documents of motorcycles.
