2014-10-17
PESHAWAR: Ahmedzai Wazir tribe of South Waziristan has accused the political agent of the agency of misusing the funds meant for development of the tribal region and demanded of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmed Khan to take notice of the irregularities and recover the public money.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, chief of Ahmedzai Wazir tribe Malik Mohammad Jamil said that the political agent Islam Zeb had adopted a step-motherly attitude with the local eldersand instead of resolving public problems he had focused on accumulation of wealth.

Accompanied by other tribesmen, Mr Jamil alleged that the funds allocated under the annual development programme and governor`s developmental plan were not spent on development of the area, and the tribal people had serious reservations about why the government was not taking notice of the funds misuse.

`Some of our elders have tried to meet the political agent to apprise him of the problems being faced by the people and to request himfor initiation of development works, but the PA instead of sparing some time for them, sent the elders behind bars for a week,` he claimed. Mr Jamil said that the administration had shown many schemes completed in the documents only, but there was no development on the ground. He said that people of the area knew well about the `fraud` but they could not do anything because offear they would be put behind bars.

He alleged that the political administration was involved in massive smuggling of various items to Afghanistan. `Dozens oftrucks loaded with various items like wheat flour, ghee, rice, sugar, etc, go via Tank district and then Garhwai, Daghzai and Angor Adda checkposts in the agency to Afghanistan, but the government is least bothered to take notice of the smuggling, said the chief of Ahmedzai Wazir tribe.

He pointed out that the political administration was busy accumulating wealth through unfair means and damaging the national economy, saying that anyone could observe the queues of trucks anytime on the Angor Adda Road.-Bureau Report
