Liaquat Ali Khan`s 65th death anniversary observed

KARACHI: Liaquat Ali Khan worked very hard to strengthen the newly independent country in its initial days, said deputy mayor Arshad Vohra on Sunday, while briefing the media while paying his respects at the grave of the former prime minister on the occasion of his 65th death anniversary.
Mr Khan was born in October 1895 in the Indian state of Uttar Pardesh. He was one of the leading founding fathers of Pakistan, statesman, lawyer, and political theorist who served as the first prime minister of Pakistan. In addition, he was the country`s first foreign minister.
Educated at the Aligarh Muslim University in India, and then at Oxford, Mr Khan was well educated, and becamean Islamic democracy political theorist who promoted the parliamentarism in India.
A large number of people visited his grave on the premises of Mazar-i-Quaid and offered Fateha which included leader of the opposition in the city council Aslam Afridi and KMC officials.
Mr Vohra said that the late Mr Khan also travelled to many foreign countries to lay a strong foundation stone of the foreign policy of the country.
Mr Vohra said that the late prime minister, accompanied by the Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, had come to attend a civic reception organised in their honour at the KMC building on Aug 25, 1948 and had ensured the government`s support and assistance to the city representatives as well as providing services to the citizens.After being invited by the Congress Party, Khan opted for the Muslim League led by the influential Mohammad Ali Jinnah who was advocating and determining to eradicate the injustices and ill treatment meted out to the Indian Muslims by the British government, adds PPL Mr Khan assisted Jinnah in campaigning for the creation of a separate state for Indian Muslims.
Mr Khan`s influence grew further after Jinnah`s death, and he was responsible for promulgating the Objectives Resolution.
On October 16, 1951, at a political rally in Rawalpindi, Mr Khan was assassinated.
People belonging to different sectors of life paid glowing tribute to the services of Liaquat Ali Khan rendered for the country and the nation.
Mr Vohra offered Fateha and laid floral wreath on the grave of Liaquat Ali Khan.
