TANGERANG (Indonesia): Pakistan`s Shahzaib Khan secured the gold medal at the Kasad Sixth Asian Taekwondo Open Championship in the kyorugi discipline on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old Shahzaib, competed in the -54kg weight category and defeated Reymundo Calamba III of the Philippines in the final.

Shahzaib who won a silver medal at the Fajr Open held in Iran in February secured the victory after a thrilling comeback. Trailing 6-11 in the first round, he dominated the second 10-3 and sealed the win with an 18-0 third-round victory.

Earlier on Wednesday, Shahzaib, hailing from Quetta, also staged a comeback victory in the semi-final against Indonesia`s Aziz Hidayat Tomakaka, winning 12-14, 16-14 and 22-0.

In the +87kg category, Pakistan`s Hamza Omar Saeed claimed the silver medal, losing to Kazakhstan`s Beibarys Kablan 5-1 and 4-4 in the final.

Hamza beat Bauyrzhan Khassenov, also from Kazakhstan, in his last-four bout.-Agencies
