73rd death anniversary of Liaquat Ali Khan observed

KARACHI: The 73rd death anniversary of the country`s first prime minister Liaquat Ali Khan was observed in the city on Wednesday.

Several programmes were held to pay tribute to the Quaid-i-Millat, who was assassinated on October 16, 1951 in Rawalpindi while addressing a public meeting.

A delegation of the Muttahida Qaumi MovementPakistan, led by Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly Ali Khurshidi, visited the mausloeum of the Quaid-i-Millat and offered fateha.

`Unmatched contribution` A seminar and mushaira were organised by the Quaid-i-Azam Academy (QAA) in collaboration with Hamdard University`s Education Department at the university`s city campus in Karachi.

Speakers and participants paid rich tribute to Liaquat Ali Khan, remembering his lifelong struggle for Pakistan`s independence and his ultimate sacrifice on October 16, 1951, in Rawalpindi.

Former Supreme Court judge Justic Zia Perwez, the chief guest, recalled the pivotal role Liaquat Ali Khan played in Pakistan`s independence movement.

He emphasised that the struggle for freedom was fought with intellect and reason rather than weapons, and Liaquat Ali Khan was a leading figure in this effort.

Justice Perwez described the slain leader as a brave, intellectual statesman whose contributions remain unmatched in the country`s history.

QAA Deputy Director Zahid Hussain Abro highlighted Khan`s ability to handle multiple state affairs simultaneously and noted the sacrifices he made for the nation. He urged participants to honour his vision for a prosperous and independent Pakistan.

Several poets, including Yasmin Yas, Abdul Rehman Momin, Qamaruz Zaman Siddiqui, and Neel Ahmed, presented poems in honour of the former prime minister.

Students also participated by sharing their poetry and speeches dedicated to the martyred leader.

Shields were distributed among the poets and students by the chief guest, and QAA presented a traditional ajrak to the dignitaries.

MQM-P observes death anniversary The MQM-Pakistan also commemorated Liaquat Ali Khan`s death anniversary and held Quran khwani at their Bahadurabad headquarters and other offices across the province.

Senior leaders, including Nasreen Jalil, attended the event in Karachi, where special prayers were offeredforthelate leader.

Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, in his message on the death anniversary of Liaquat Ali Khan, paid rich tribute to him and emphasised that the country`s progress could be achieved by following his ideology, vision, and principles.
