Wife`s killer executed in Sahiwal

SAHIWAL: A convict was executed in the Central Prison in the wee hours of Thursday.

Muhammad Tahir had killed his wife in Sheikhupura on June 23, 2007.

Jail Superintendent Rana Razaullah told Dawn that Tahir was convicted of murder and his mercy plea was rejected.

The A-Division police registered a case and Malik Arshad, an additional district and sessions judge of Sheikhupura, handed down death penalty to him.

NOTICE: The commissioner on Thursday took notice of the shortage of staff, dysfunctional online management system, wrong entries of land record data and poor condition of building during a surprise visit to the Computerised Land Record Centre.

Ali Bahadur Qazi made a surprise visit to the centre on complaints he received from time totime. There were public complaints that the centre was not delivering services to citizens.

Among major complaints are issuance of less tokens and closure of tokens before 12 noon, wrong entry of data, dysfunctional management system and harsh attitude of the staff.

The commissioner along with assistant commissioners paid a surprise visit to the centre and found that 13 of the 20 data entry posts were vacant.

Babar Hussain, the centre in-charge, told the commissioner that there was immense workload on the staff. He said request for hiring had been submitted many times but nothing had been done so far.

The commissioner directed the staff to immediately install benches and provide drinking water facility to the visitors.

He assured the citizens that all measures would be taken for improving the system and Rs1.5 million would be spent on renovation of building.
