By-polls in three wards of Kasur today

KASUR: By-election in three wards of different union councils is being held here on Thursday (today).

As many as 1,626 voters of Kanvain Ki Jhonk, Phoolnagar, (ward no 3 of UC-110) will exercise their right to enfranchise at government girls primary school, Kanvain.

Polling here was cancelled after some unidentified suspects held the staff hostage at gunpoint and took away election material. Phoolnagar police had registered a case. There would be four polling booths for voters and 129 police officials deployed.

Earlier, three candidates were contesting the polls whereas an independent candidate has withdrawn in favour of PML-N hopeful, leaving one-on-one contest between PML-N and PTI contenders.

In Kot Radha Kishan ward no. 12, as many as 1,679 people will cast vote at three booths at Government Primary School, Maan Singh.

Election could not beheld after some assailants took away ballot boxes and later thew them at the polling station with broken seals. Muhammad Nasir of PML-N is contesting against independent candidate Yamin Kamboh in ward 12.

In Mandi Usmanwala, 7,218 voters would cast vote at six polling stations at Fatehwala, Khaniana, Qila Daokay, Daokay Kalan and Bhagiki areas.

Election was cancelled over violation of ECP code.

The district administration claim to have made foolproof security arrangements.

DPO Ali Nasir Rizvi told Dawn that over 900 policemen would be deployed.
