Time to inculcate spirit of tolerance in society: speakers

SWABI: Speakers at a function held here on Wednesday said that there was an intense need for inculcating the spirit of tolerance in the society, which was necessary for the economic prosperity of people and political unity in the country.

The function was arranged by Sungi Development Foundation (SDF) under its Awaz programme to launch the antihate campaign in the district. District nazim Ameer Rehman was the chief guest and local councillors and chairmen of village councils were also present on the occasion.

The participants said that the government had already worked out a strategy to inculcate the spirit of tolerance in the people of all sects because the role of the society was very critical.

They said that hate against each other could harm the society and impede the process of development.

Representative of the local bodies expressed their support to the campaign, saying they were worried about the rising intolerance in the society during the last one decade.

The district nazim said that there was need of peace and harmony because these were the prerequisite for economic prosperity and political awakening.

He pledged that the district government would fully support the campaign to discourage intolerance in the society.

Ghulam Haqqani, Razaar tehsil nazim, said that without education it would be difficult to teach the young generation the lesson of tolerance. Wahid Shah, Swabi tehsil nazim, said that the rising incidents of killing were the result of intolerance.

Rohal Amin, president of Samajee Behbood Rabita Council, said that the people should shun differences and focus on the progress and prosperity ofthe county.
