Growers` camp leaves people high and dry

RAHIM YAR KHAN: Motorists and passersby have been facing inconvenience for the last few days due to a protest camp at main Shahi Road near GPO Chowk by sugarcane farmers.

The protesters are alleged to have been using aloudspeaker disturbing shopkeepers and passersby.

Automobile Standing Committee of Rahim Yar Khan Chamber of Commerce and Industry chairman Illyas Mughal told Dawn that the district administration had failed to check the violation of Amplifier Act at the central point of the city. He said traffic remained blocke d on Shahi Road creating hardships for people and businessmen.

Another citizen, Zahid Mian, said he faced difficulties while going pass GPO chowlc to drop and pick his children from school as police divert traffic due to the camp.

He further said an illegal book stall and a taxi stand at the chowk set up with the alleged permission of municipal committee was another hurdle in the flow of traffic.

Assistant Commissioner Adnan Khan Bhitani said he would check the misuse of the loudspeaker at the camp and also direct the traffic police to ensure smooth flow of vehicles. Correspondent
