UC residents demand filtration plants be fixed

NAROWAL: Nine out of the 11 water filtration plants in Union Council (UC) 36 Bola Bajwah have been out oforderfor over a year allegedly owing to the negligence of the district government, depriving 25,000 people of clean drinking water.

The UC comprises 10 villages, including Ghaziwal Kalan, Ghaziwal Khurd, Suggal, Chheenah, Dhadyalah, Bola Bajwah, Bore Bajwah, Sran and Mahianwala. The government installed 11 filtration plants to provide clean drinking water to the residents, however only the ones installed at villages Sran and Chheenah were functional.

Due to the non-functional plants, over 25,000 people were forced to drink impure water.

Residents Muhammad Riaz and Muhammad Boota said: `We sub-mitted applications about the non-functioning plants to the UC chairman, district council chairman and the deputy commissioner a number of times, but nobody is ready to solve our problem.

Hanifan Bibi, Allah Rakhhi and Kulsoom Bibi also complained: `Owing to dirty drinking water, our children and other family members are suffering from stomach, kidney and other diseases.

UC Chairman Nawab Muhammad Aamir said: `It is our duty to supply clean water to the people. I will get the water filtration plants repaired at the earliest.

Deputy Commissioner Ali Anan Qamar said: `It is the priority of the government to provide clean drinking water.

Faulty plants will be repaired so that people get clean drinking water.
