Engineers demand jobs or stipend

LAHORE: The Pakistan Engineering Council(PEC), the Institute of Engineers Pakistan (IEP) and the Young Engineers Association on Monday demanded that the government provide jobs to 50,000 unemployed engineers in the country.

PEC Chairman Javed Saleem Quraishi said at the press conference on Monday the civil bureaucracy was creating hurdles for the engineers as BA officers were being posted as secretary of the engineering department who did not have knowledge about the department. He demanded that engineers be appointed as heads of different department of Wapda.

Mr Quraishi demanded either the engineers be given jobs or they should be provided unemployment allowance or they would launch a protest campaign.

IEP Secretary General Ameer Zamir said if the people were not given basic rights, they would take law into their hands like the lawyers of the country. He said the engineers were peaceful people and should not be forced tolaunchprotest.
