K ARACHI: Zulfiqar A. Q adir won the 32nd Sindh Cup Snooker Tournament title, defeating Abdul Sattar 5-4 in a thrilling final at the OTC Snooker Arena on Monday.

Sattar, who had earlier stunned defending champion Ali Hamza, was bidding to continue his giant-killing spree. However, Zulfiqar proved too strong, winning the final frame 58-11 to take the title.

The final was a closely contested affair, with Sattar taking an early lead. He won the first frame 60-12, and then took the third frame 77-27. However, Zulfiqar fought back, winning the fourth frame 61-16 and the fifth frame 58-45.

Sattar leveled the match at 4-4, winning the seventh frame 69-34. However, Zulfiqar dominated the final frame to take the title.

In the semi-finals on Sunday, Sattar had eased past Ian Mark John 5-1 [23-58, 79-58, 65-08, 63-06, 78-20, 84-25], while Zulfiqar had beaten Hyderabad`s cueist Umer Naeem 5-2 [71-08, 60-25, 46-76, 79-01, 67-32, 28-67, 73-39] .

Zulfiqar took home the winner`s prize of Rs110,000, while Sattar earned Rs55,000 as the runner-up. The semi-finalists were awarded Rs30,000 each and the quarter-finalists received Rs15,000 each.

Umer claimed the award for the highest break of 118, pocketing a prize of Rs15,000.-Sports Reporter
