Homage paid to APS martyrs at Salu seminar

SUKKUR: The Students Societies Centre of the Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, on Monday observed the 10 anniversary of the Army Public School (APS), Peshawar, carnage by holding a seminar in its auditorium.
As many as 147 people 132 small students and their teachers were martyred by terrorists who had stormed their way into the school and went berserk using automatic heavy and small weapons on Dec 16, 2014.
The terror attack is described as the deadliest in the country`s history.
The students, faculty and employees of the university observed a `black day` to commemorate the carnage.
Speakers at the seminar underscored the importance of peace and resilience in society.
Dr Ali Raza Lashari, coordinator of the centre, told the participants: `This day reminds us of the sacrifices made [for peace], and underscores the importance of unity against terrorism and extremism. Let`s pledge to foster education and peace to build a resilient nation`.
Shumaila Rubab Rizvi, a prominent academic, said that the light of knowledge could defeat these darkest forces. She called for ensuring a safe and enlightened future for our youth.
The centre`s president, Asad Abbas, appreciated the participants` renewed commitment as a community to honour these young heroes and to stand united for peace and progress.
The seminar participants paid homage to the APS martyrs and highlighted significance of the day.
The seminar concluded with prayers for the martyrs and renewed commitment to combating terrorism and extremism in the country through education.
