ISLAMABAD: A woman and her minor daughter were killed in a gas blast in a house in G-6/2 on Wednesday, police and rescue department officials said.

The incident took place in the afternoon.

The officials said the roof of the house caved in when fire erupted due to leakage of gas from a pipeline in the house.

As a result, a woman and her six-year-old daughter were buried under the roof, they said.

The neighbours rushed to the house, and after getting the information, the rescue departments and police also reached the spot, they said, adding that the adjacent houses were vacated as precautionary measure during the rescue work.

The bodies of the woman and her daughter were retrieved from the debris after firefighters extinguished the fire.

Later, their bodies were shifted to the hospital.

During the incident, the house was burned, and few adjacent houses were also partially damaged, they added.

The residents of the street where the incident took place told the police that there was a gas leakage from a gas pipeline, and they smelled it too.

They added that the line either inside the house or outside near the house was leaked, and as a result, the gas filled the house which caught fire after a huge explosion.
