Marathon returns to Muzaffargarh after seven years

MUZAFFARGARH: After a hiatus of seven years, a marathon was held here at Faisal Stadium on Friday.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Quratul Ain praised the event, particularly lauding the enthusiastic participation of women.

Addressing the prize distribution ceremony, she said Muzaffargarh`s fertile soil and vibrant spirit promise great potential and collective efforts will lead to the district`s betterment.

The girls` marathon race, confined to a twokilometre track within the stadium, saw Bushra clinch first place, followed by Maryam and Asma in second and third positions, respectively.

In the men`s marathon, Hasnain Atta secured the top spot, with Adnan Nawaz and Shaukat Mahmood finishing second and third.

Meanwhile, in the cycle race, Muhammad Younis emerged winner, followed by Muzamil Abbas and Muhammad Arsalan.

Prize money of Rs15,000, Rs10,000 and Rs5,000 was awarded to the first three position holders in each category.

Also, Muhammad Hamza Baig received a special prize of Rs5,000 fromDPO Syed Hasnain Haider, while Punjab Police presented Rs10,000 to Yamin Rahi.

Children with special needs participating in the event were honoured with gifts distributed by the assistant commissioner.

KILLED: A young man was killed allegedly by his brother over a domestic dispute in Chowk Sarwar Shaheed Tehsil, 30km from the city, on Friday.

Police said suspect Abdul Majeed opened fire on his elder brother, Abdul Hameed, following a heated argument.

During the scuffle, Majeed grabbed a pistol and fatally shot Hameed.

Rescue officials and police arrived at the scene and shifted the body to the hospitalfor a postmortem examination.

The family, originally from Basti Sandeela, had moved to Chowk Sarwar Shaheed a few years ago.

In another incident in the Shah Jamal area, a woman was injured by her son, who shot her following a domestic quarrel.

The victim, identified as Taj Bibi, sustained injuries due to her son`s aggressive behaviour.

Police registered a case against the suspect and initiated further legal proceedings.
