CHITRAL: A national of Spain has hunted a Kashmir markhor near Bokhutuli village in Toshi-Shasha conservancy here after obtaining a trophy hunting permit for Rs78 million from the wildlife department.

A villager of Bokhtuli told Dawn that David Nogareda did not face any difficulty in finding a suitable markhor of the trophy size as the snow-covered pasture brought the animal to the lower altitude.

He said that the local community helped the Spanish national hunt the wild goat from a close range with the help of his automatic rifle, while its horn was found to be 44-inch high.

The villager said that the local community was highly delighted over the trophy hunting in the pasture after a long gap of many years, while they had been active in conservation of the wild goats ensuring that the conservancy has hundreds of trophysize markhors.

Eighty per cent of the permit fee is paid to the local community for its well-being through the village conservation committee.
