KARACHI: Motorcyclists hurled explosives at the offices of two media houses on Monday, but there were no casualties.

According to Jamshed Division SP Rana Shoaib, motorcyclists threw an improvised explosive device (IED) at the gate of the office of Aaj TV near Guru Mandir roundabout.

The building also houses the offices of daily Business Recorder.

The IED went off, causing minor damage to the main gate.

Rana Shoaib said the motorcyclists also threw an IED outside a building in the same area that houses the offices of Wagt TV, The Nation and Nawa-i-Wagt newspapers. But it did not explode and was defused.

`Apparently, one group was involved in both attacks aimed at harassing the mediahouses,` the SP said. But the exact motive of the attacks would be determined only after an investigation, he added.

An official of the bomb disposal squad told Dawn that crackers stuffed in cold drink bottles containing metal balls used in ball bearings had been used in the attacks.

Each cracker weighed around 500 grams.

No one claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Gunmen attacked an outside broadcast van of Express News TV in North Nazimabad last month, killing three employees.

The banned Tehreek-iTaliban Pakistan owned up to the attack.

In December, attackers opened fire and hurled grenades at the building of Express media group, which houses the offices of Express TV, daily Express and Express Tribune. Three people, including a security guard, were injured.
