Officials` absence from meeting angers MPAs

By Our Correspondent 2014-02-18
DAGGAR: Failure of the heads of line departments to turn up at the meeting of the district development advisory committee on Monday angered the lawmakers.

Owing to absence of the officials, the meeting ended without taking any important decision, as officials of some departments who represented their heads in the meeting, couldn`t properly update the participants about the development schemes.

The meeting was presided over by DDAC chairman MPA Habibur Rehman Khan. Deputy Commissioner Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, MPA Mufti Fazal Ghafoor and others also attended the meeting.

Perturbed by the absence of the concerned officials from the meeting, MPA Mr Rehman directed heads of the line departments to attend the next meetings of the committee or face action.

MPA Mufti Ghafoor told the meeting that appointment of six employees in the district council in July 2013 was taken without his consent. He warned to table a privilege motion in the provincial assembly in this regard.

MISUSE OF COMMUNITY FUNDS: Office-bearers of community-based organisations (CBOs) from Amazal union council in Mandan tehsil on Monday accused the Sarhad Rural Support Programme of embezzling millions of rupees of development funds.

Addressing a news conference here, they alleged that SRSP in-charge Shahid Iqbal and other officials were bypassing the community and village based organisations in development schemes.

They pointed out that substandard material was used in construction of Charooral road, saying that a water supply scheme meant for Charoorai was shifted from the area to appease two local political figures.

They demanded of the Buner deputy commissioner and SRSP district chief to take action against the elements involved in misuse of community funds.

DEPARTMENTS` PERFORMANCE: Meanwhile, elders of Gadezai complained about poor performance of line departments during a Khuli Katchery organised jointly by police and district administration at Jowhela check point in Pir Baba.

The elders alleged that revenue department officials demanded bribe to get their problems resolved.

They also complained about frequent traffic jams, deterioration of environment by marble factories waste, excessive loadshedding, deforestation, lack of facilities in the district headquarters hospital and absence of employees from offices during duty hours.

DPO Asif Iqbal Mohmand, assistant commissioner Awess Malik, DSP Ghulam Ahmad Khan, SHO Pir Baba Abdul Wakeel and other officials were present at the meeting.
