Intra-Kashmir trade resumes

MUZAFFARABAD: Intra-Kashmir trade through the Chakothi-Uri crossing point resumed on Tuesday, with 28 trucks ferrying goods across the divide, officials said.

The trade was suspended on February 6 in the wake of a row over drug trafficking from here.

On Monday, 50 passengers from AJK and IHK had travelled across the Chakothi-Uri crossing point.

Welcoming the resumption of trade, Ajaz Ahmed Meer, secretary information Jammu Kashmir Joint Chamber of Trade and Industry (JKCCI), however called for finding a lasting solution to the irritants affecting the activity over and over again.

He also urged Islamabad and New Delhi to ensure that the drivers Inayat Shah and Shafique Awan were released by the IHK authorities without further ado.

`Pakistan and India must take substantial steps to stop recurrence ofsuch events thatland traders and truckers in trouble, including installation of latest scanners at their respective intra-Kashmir trade terminals.
