SU workshop on research methods ends

HYDERABAD: Social scientists at a programme termed research-oriented education, coupled with good behaviour, as inevitable for development, success and initiation of change in societies.
They stressed that quality was essential for national progress anywhere in the world, including Pakistan.
They were speaking at the concluding ceremony of a two-week training workshop titled `Social Research Methods` held at the Area Study Centre of the University of Sindh (SU) Jamshoro, presided over by SU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Fateh Mohammad Burfat, a press release said on Friday.
The VC, a social scientist, said there were a number of problems and challenges in the country, but if everybody performed their duty with honesty and diligence, problems could be overcome.
`Change in society would be possible only after we get rid of social problems through knowledge-based research,` he said.
He cited the example of a blind scholar, Sabir Michael, who, he said, had done PhD under his supervision at Karachi University and later served in the United Nations in New York.
Others who also spoke were HEC director Mohammad Raza Chohan, University of Malaysia Perlis professors Dr Zuraidah Mohammad Zain and Dr Huzili Hussein, and Area Study Centre director Dr Hamadullah Kakepoto.
