Moot seeks action against `hate-mongers` on social media

PESHAWAR: The participants of a conference, hosted by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi here on Monday, asked the government to take decisive action against those propagating extremism, sectarianism, and hatred on the social media.

The conference on `Unity of Ummah and Stability of Pakistan` was held at the Governor`s House, at the directions of President Asif Ali Zardari. The event brought together prominent religious scholars, leaders and political figures.

The moot in its declaration underscored the crucial role of religious leaders in promoting peace,unity, and stability within the province and across the country.

In the declaration, the participants unanimously pledged their commitment to eradicating terrorism and expressed their resolve to implement the `Message of Pakistan` initiative.

They also called on the government to collaborate with religious, political, and social leaders to create a comprehensive and inclusive policy to promote tolerance, peace, and brotherhood across all sects. It was stressed that laws upholding the dignity and sanctity of Islamic values and personalities should be fully enforced.The conference also proposed setting up of a special committee under the leadership of Governor Faisal Karim Kundi to work alongside the government to resolve conflict in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

They emphasised that sectarian differences should remain within personal boundaries and should not be allowed to create divisionsin the society.

The participants also called for a unified stance on global issues like Palestine and Kashmir, and expressedfullsupportforthefederal government`s position on the Gaza issue.

The participants underscoredthe importance of political stability, inter-sect harmony, and economic progress for Pakistan`s development, and urged religious leaders to use their platforms to fosterpeace andunity.

The conference concluded with a pledge to work towards the stability of Pakistan just as the different religious groups had united for the creation of the country.

The participants also paid tribute to the armed forces, police, and other law enforcement agencies as well as the civilian martyrs in recognition of their sacrifices for the defence and peace of the country.-Bureau Report
