36 PTI workers booked in Uch, Ahmedpur East

BAHAWALPUR: The Ahmedpur East city and Uch Sharif police booked over 36 more activists of the Pakistan Tehreek-iInsaf (PTI), who had staged protests againstthe possible arrest of its Chairman Imran Khan.

According to police sources, the Ahmedpur East city police registered an FIR against 28 PTI activists and officials, nominating Shahzain Abbasi, Hafiz Muzzafar Karim and six others, while 20 of them were unidentified.

Similarly, Uch Sharif police also registered an FIR against the nominated PTI office-bearers, including Makki Moavia, Mohsinul Mulk,Malik Shakil and five others.

The sources confirmed to that both FIRs were registered on the complaint of police officials, who alleged that during the protests, the party`s office-bearers and activists staged demonstration, raised slogans and blocked roads for traffic.

However, the police officials did not officially claimed arrest of any PTI worker so far.N O M I N A T I O N PAPERS: As many as 594 candidates filed their total 711 nomination papers to contest from 31 total Punjab Assembly seats from three districts of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan of Bahawalpur division.

Regional Election Commissioner Mian Muhammad Shahid said that for 10 PA seats in Bahawalpur district total 199 candidates filed their papers, for eight Bahawalnagar PA seats 159 and for 13 Rahim Yar Khan seats total 240 candidates filed their papers.

Dawn has learnt that a majority of the candidates who filed their nomination papers belonged to the PTI, followed by other mainstream political parties, including PML-N, PPP, JUI, JI, TLP etc.

Mr Shahid to Dawn that the maximum 35 candidates filed theirpapers for PP-238 (Bahawalnagar-II), while the minimum seven for PP-253 (Bahawalpur 1X).

He said the scrutiny of the nomination papers would begin in the presence of the candidates from Monday next.
