LAHORE: Scores of people lodged a strong protest after a motorcyclist was killed by a heavy crane at the site of Orange Line train project near the railway station on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at Boharwala Chowk when Asim, 30, was on his way to market.

The crane driver lost control and crushed him, some witnesses told the police.

They said the driver was zigzagging the crane that led to the accident causing critical injuries to the motorcyclist. He was rushed to hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

The police arrested the crane driver after the incident and sent the body to morgue.

The family members blocked the main road for traffic demanding that the police nominate senior managerial staff of the company worl(ing on the construction site.

BODY RETRIEVED: The Barki police on Tuesday recovered the body of a minor girl from the BRB canal who had gone missing on April 14.

The Class IV girl had left her house for school and never returned. Her family hadreported the matter to the local police. On Tuesday, some locals spotted her body floating in the canal and alerted the police.

The police reached the spot along with Rescue 1122 divers who retrieved the body from canal and called the parents of the girl for identification. They confirmed her identity.

The police said the body that apparently carried no torture mark had been shifted to the city morgue for autopsy.

The case has been handed over to the homicide unit for investigation, a police official said.

CROSSFIRE: A young man died in a clash between two rival groups in Harbansepura.

According to initial reports, the residents of Akbari Colony Munawar Shah, Nadeem Shah and Nasir Shah had a brawl with Zeshan, Ehsan and Wajid Gujjar.

The physical scuffle led to an armed clash which continued for an hour, witnesses told the police. During the crossfire, a bullet hit the chest of onlooker Zahid Jutt. He was shifted to hospital to be received dead.

The body was shifted to the city morgue for an autopsy. The police were awaiting complaint to lodge the case.
