SUKKUR: A man allegedly shot dead his daughter-in-law on suspicion of her having an extramarital affair with a prayer leader and fled his home near Kashmore on Monday.

The area police said that Gul Zaman suspected that his daughter-in-law, Ms Hanifa, had been maintaining an unacceptably close relationship with a man, a resident of Punjab, who was engaged to lead Taraveeh prayers at a mosque in the neighbourhood. They said the suspect shot her dead and fled the home to escape arrest.

They said the woman`s body was taken to the Kashmore hospital for a post-mortem examination and later handed over to the heirs.

A hunt for the suspect was under way, the police said.
