PESHAWAR: Over 2,000 more Afghan nationals left for Afghanistan on Wednesday night as the repatriation of both, the documented and undocumented Afghans continues.

According to the data available with Dawn, around 829 registered Afghan nationals, carrying Afghan Citizen Card (ACC), left the country on Wednesday. It said that out of 829 ACC holders, 526 left for Afghanistan voluntarily while 303 were deported through Torkham border.

The data also suggested that some 1,668 Afghan nationals, who had been living in Pakistan without having been registered, also left on Wednesday night.

The details stated that out of 1,668, some 1,262 Afghan nationals left for Afghanistan voluntarily while 406 were deported.

Since April 1, after the deadline for repatriation of registered Afghan refugees expired, around 22,977 ACC holders have left for Afghanistan. Some 15,402, out of a total 22,977 ACC holders, left the country voluntarily while 7,575 were deported.

The government has established two transit/holding points for Afghan nationals.

The Afghans, mostly brought from other provinces including Azad Jammu and Kashmir, are shifted to the transit camps where all of them are registered with National Database and Registration Authority. All of them are later transported to the Torkham border crossing and handed over to the afghan authorities.
