LAHORE: In a national conference organised jointly here at Bakhtiar Labour Hall by the All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union and the All Pakistan Federation of Trade Unions, the workers demanded the government raise pay and pension of workers employed in government, semi-government, private, industries, commerce, banks, media etc at the rate of 30pc of their pay and pension in the budget for 2025-26.

They also sought safe and healthy working conditions and prevention of tragic fatal and non-fatal accidents of electricity workers on account of staff shortage due to the ban imposed on recruitment for the last 7.5 years while old hands are retiring and quantum of work is rising day to day. They appealed to the prime minister and the federal energy minister to review the order of proposed privatisation of profitable electricity companies.
