Sherpao for all-party moot on key issues

Bureau Report 2014-05-18
PESHAWAR: Urging the federal government to take effective steps for restoration of peace, Qaumi Watan Party has called for convening of all-party conference (APC) to discuss the prevailing situation and develop consensus on key national issues.

The suggestion was given by the party`s central chairman Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao while speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, where Jamaat-iIslami activist Saifullah Khan joined the QWP along with his supporters.

Mr Sherpao said that the prevailing situation should be reviewed so that the interests of the country could be safeguarded. He made the suggestion in the backdrop of the election victory of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in India.

He urged the political parties to shun their petty differences and join hands for the stability and uplift of the country.

The QWP leader said that members of the negotiation committees should avoidmaking allegations against each another as it would undermine the nascent peace process.

About demand of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan calling for the resignation of the members of Election Commission of Pakistan, he said the demand was unconstitutional.

He said the PTPs anti-rigging protest was aimed at concealing the poor performance of the KP government.

He said the PTI-led government should serve the masses instead of indulging in such practices.

Mr Sherpao said that the ruling parties should be allowed to complete their tenure as the people had given them mandate.

He said that the provincial government had failed to secure net hydel profit arrears from the federal government.

He said that subjecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to prolonged power loadshedding was unjustified as the province produced cheap hydel electricity.

The QWP chief said the KP government used only 13 per cent funds allocated under the Annual Development Fund, which spoke volumes about its poor performance during the past one year.

Mr Sherpao claimed that 47 doctors of government hospitals had gone on long leave and left Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year owing to the rising incidents of kidnapping for ransom.
