Engineer booked for embezzling over Rs4 million

KOHAT: The anti-corruption department here on Saturday registered a case against the executive engineer of communication and works (C&W) department and a contractor for embezzling Rs4.5 million in a school construction project, officials said.
Principal of government centennial high school for boys No 1, Syed Zakir Hussain, had lodged the FIR against the executive engineer, Syed Mubarik Hussain Shah and contractor Haleem.
The principal alleged that the two had embezzled over Rs4.5 million of the Rs8 million project for construction of school building.
He stated that both the accused had withdrawn the money by signing bogus bills of the sub-divisional officer and sub-engineer.
According to officials of the anti-corruption department, another case concerning embezzlement of Rs2.5 million was already pending in the court against the same engineer.
They said that the police had been raiding various places for arrest of the accused on the directives of anti-corruption department director Fayyaz Ali Shah.
JUI-F OFFICE-BEARERS: Haji Mohammad Jamil panel won the elections for the Kohat district cabinet of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl for the second consecutive termon Saturday.
About 338 party members took part in the elections, which were held at the farmhouse of Ghulam Habib.
Former minister Maulana Asmatullah was chairman of the election committee.
Maulana Abdur Raheem had withdrawn from the polls for the slot of president and nominated in his place Maulana Abdul Hadi, who won the elections unopposed.
Haji Jamil Paracha returned as secretary general for the second consecutive term.
Meanwhile, dozens of members who were not allowed to poll their vote protested during the elections and demanded their right to vote.
Those who protested on the occasion included Maulvi Naitmatullah of Jarma, Maulvi Abdul Kareem of Dhoda, Abdul Momin of Gul Hassan Banda, Mufti Mohammad Qasim of Togh Bala, Maulana Ahmed of College Town and others.
CAMPAIGN: A campaign was launched on Saturday to restore greenery of the Hangu district.
The first ever campaign to make Hangu green and safe was launched by the newlyappointed deputy commissioner, Naeem Anwar Sadozai, during a meeting in his office on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, he asked the officials of various government departments to use all available resources to provide services to the people and solve their problems.
