LAHORE: The butchers association on Tuesday agreed to ensure sale of mutton and beef less than the rates notified by the city administration.
`We appreciate all of you for pledging to sell meat for Rs600 and beef for Rs280 per kilo,` District Officer (Monitoring) Amin Akbar Chopra said in a meeting with the butchers` representatives.
He said the City District Government of Lahore had earlier notified mutton to be sold at Rs700 and beef at Rs325 per kg. Therefore, the meat sellers` decision to sell mutton and beef at less than the notified price was commendable, he added.
Meanwhile, price control magistrates had 85 shopkeepers arrested for overcharging, hoarding and selling substandard commodities in open markets.
