FIR lodged against travel agency in PIA fraud case

RAHIM YAR KHAN: A first information report (FIR) was registered on the application of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) against one of its passenger sales agents here at the City A division police station on Wednesday in a Rs26 million financial embezzlement case.
Police sources told Dawn the FIR was filed under Secdon 406 of the PPC by PIA district sales office officials against Sadigabad-based Wakalatul Fursan Travel and Tours Chief Executive Officer Saad Ansari and directors Saeed Ansari, Zubair Ahmed and Syed H assaan Irtaza.
In the FIR, the PIA of ficials stated the WFTT violated an agreement with the airlines and embezzled Rs26.2 million. The airlines had written a letter to the WFTT on March 30 regarding payment due along with evidence, but the agency did not pay the Rs26.2 million.
Police started an investigation into the case.OLD TREE: Municipal Committee (MC) staff has started chopping down an old tree outside Allama Iqbal Library Chowk in the name of trimming.
Citizens claimed that this old tree had been trimmed for the third time in a short period to facilitate visibility of some signboards nearby.
Senior lawyer and Punjab Bar Council member Mumtaz Mustafa told Dawn a few months ago he had stopped the MC from cutting the branches of the tree.
Advocate Ahmed Farhan Bilali told Dawn he and Advocate Sajid Mehmood Rafiqui would file a petition today (Thursday) against the `trimming` of this old tree that will prove hazardous for the environment.
Municipal Officer (Infrastructure and I m p1e m e n t a t i o n ) Muhammad Ansar Kamboh claimed the staff was trimming the tree because an illegal car stand was being run under its shade.
He said he would check the tree today and make sure it was not cut further.
