PESHAWAR: Speakers at a seminar here on Wednesday demanded of the authorities to include profile of celebrated Pakhtun king Sher Shah Suri in school history book so that young people could know about his achievements.

The Poha Foundation, a civil society organisation, held the seminar titled `Life and achievements of Sher Shah Suri` at Pashto Academy, University of Peshawar.

Students, teachers, writers, intellectuals and research scholars attended the function.

The event was held to mark the 477th anniversary of victory of Afghans in India.

ANP leader Abdul Latif Afridiwas chief guest on the occasion while Bashir Khan Matta chaired the seminar.

Speakers said that the profile of Sher Shah Suri was taken out of history books by some vested interests. They demanded of the authorities to include his achievements in school syllabus so that young generation could know about their past heroes.

Shafeeg Gigyani, chief of Poha Foundation, said that basic objective of the event was to appraise youth of achievements of Sher Shah Suri.

Latif Afridi said that Sher Shah Suri introduced many civil and administrative reforms during his rule. He said that history couldn`t ignore his achievements. He said that Pakhtun youth should work on the life and struggle of SherShah Suri and spread his message of continuous struggle.

Ayaz Mandokhel, a keynote speaker, said that Sher Shah founded the Sur Empire in northern India after he took control of Mughal rule in 1540 in the absence of Babar`s son Humayun on account ofhisexpedition.

Bashir Khan Matta, author of a book on Sher Shah Suri, said that Pakhtun heroes were deliberately ignored in history books. He said that Sher Shah Suri was pioneer of numerous plans of civil and military administration in India that were reflective of his visionary thoughts. ANP general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain said that Sher Shah Suri was a shining star, who scaled the heights of success in history in a short span of his five-year rule.
