Kaghan valley eople start clearing roads on self-h basis

MANSEHRA: People of Sangar area of Kaghan valley on Sunday started clearing roads blocked by heavy landslides last week.
The locals led by Mohammad Pervez Qurashi hired shovels and started clearing the Sangar-Ghanool and Jangri-Arban roads.
The roads linking many villages with Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad Road were blocked when heavy landslides trigged by rains and windstorms blocke d them in Kaghan valley.
Local Ghulam Murtaza told reporters that people had approached local lawmakers and departments concerned to get the roads cleared, but to no avail.
`Now the people have started clearing roads on their own,` he said. He said local elder, Pervez Qurashi, moblised the local community and contributed major chunk of funds to hire machinery for the road clearing purpose.
Meanwhile, a man was shot dead by his friend in College Doraha area on Sunday. The police said Umar Shah killed Mohammad Jan after a brawl.
The victim expired at the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital.
The police registered an FIR and arrested the accused.
In another incident, MohammadNisar drowned in a river in Dalola area of Garhi Habibullah.
The local divers made attempts to fish out the body but strong currents thwarted their bid.
POOR GET RS220 MILLION: District development advisory committee chairman Nawabzada Fareed has claimed that the provincial government has distributed Rs220 million among thedeserving families in Oghi and Darband tehsils.
`The government has distributed the financial assistance of Rs220 million among 17,000 deserving families, he told reporters in Oghi on Sunday.
He said around 22,000 families from the two tehsils had applied for the Prime Minister`s Ehsaas Kafalat programme, and the remaining 5,000 families would soon be compensated.
He said people should strictly follow precautionary measures laid down bythe government to contain spread of Covid-19.
`The Covid-19 is not a myth but a fact and those misleading people should shun propaganda. If people won`t observe precautions they might be infected with the virus,` said Mr Fareed.
He said the government was mulling a strategy where people could not only be protected against the pandemic but they could also be provided with opportunities to earn a decent living.
