PTI to protest in solidarity with PAT

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Punjab President Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhry gave a call for a peaceful protest on Wednesday (today) to express solidarity with the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).

He also demanded Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif resign and accept responsibility of police`s `brutality` against PAT workers.

Condemning the incident, he said PTI chief Imran Khan would visit the injured persons at the hospital today.

Speaking at a news conference on Tuesday, the PTI provincial president said Pun jab`s rulers `behaved like dictators` and there was no example of such `brutality` in the country. He said the rulers had resorted to extremism at a wrong time. He said the Punjab government planned to fight terrorists but ended up opening fire on `unarmed innocent` citizens.

Chaudhry claimed the bloodshed continued for almost 10 hours in Model Town but surprisingly the chief minister said he did not knowabout the incident.

`The chief minister was lying,` he added. He said police should also reveal who ordered the operation and to open fire and torture people.

The PTI leader announced the party would hold its protest gathering in Bahawalpur on June 27.

Other party leaders, including Abdul Aleem Khan, Mian Aslam Iqbal, Sadia Suhail, Shunila Ruth, were also present on the occasion.

PbBC: The Punjab Bar Council on Tuesday announced boycott of courts for Wednesday (today) against the brutal police action against workers of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek in Model Town.

Giving the strike call, PbBC vice-chairman Ahmar Hussain Cheema said the Punjab government had lost its credibility and had no respect for the rule of law. He demanded strict action against the policemen involved in the killing of innocent people.

Office-bearers of the Lahore High Court Bar Association will also hold a press conference on Wednesday to announce protest against the killing of PAT workers.
