Three children among six dead in rain-related incidents

LAHORE: Six people, including three children, lost their lives and eight others sustained injuries in rain-related incidents in different areas of the city on Sunday.

Reports said that six children were playing in a street after the rain when about seven feet wall of a buffalo farm collapsed on them. All the children were trapped under the debris and suffered critical injuries. Rescue 1122 ambulances shifted them to Mayo Hospital where three of them -Mehek, 10, Hamza, 9, and Umer, 9, -were declared dead on arrival while the condition of Hamza, 7, Shero, 6 andanother was said to be stable.

Relatives of victims and a large number of area people blocked Bund Road in protest against the district administration and demanded the registration of a murder case against the buffalo farm owner.

The protestors said they had repeatedly alerted the farm owner about the poor condition of the wall, but he did not fix the problem.

They also demanded action against the inspection teams of the district administration for their failure to check the owner for running a buffalo farm in the residential area.

The protesters dispersed after the Sanda police assured them thata murder case would be registered against the buf falo farm owner.

Later, police registered a case against buffalo farm owner Mehboob alias Booba under section 322 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

In the second incident, two Metro train project workers were killed while four others injured when the roof of a dilapidated house collapsed in Mustafa Town.

Rescue 1122 teams along with nine ambulances reached the spot, removed the debris and pulled out six people. They were shifted to Jinnah Hospital where Ali, 20, was declared dead on arrival while Munir, 50, died later The injured were identified asIqbal, 35, Arshad, 23, Akhtar, 32, and Taimoor, 25. The six had got a room on rent near the project site.

A rescue official said the incident occurred when 15 labourers were asleep and the roof of a room caved in due to heavy rain.

A man was killed and his wife suffered injuries when the roof of their house collapsed near Shama Chowk inIchhra.

Yousif, 35, and his wife Naila, 30, were asleep in their house when the incident happened. The Rescue 1122 personnel pulled out the couple trapped under the debris and shifted them to Mayo Hospital where doctors pronounced Yousuf dead while his wife was said to be in stable condition.
