Flood-hit people await compensation

LAKKI MARWAT: PPP local leaders on Sunday expressed concern over delay in payment of compensation to the people hit of floods, last year.

Speaking at a meeting here on Sunday, the PPP leaders, including Haji Isam Gul, Khan Badshah Advocate and Tarik Sikandary, said monsoon Hoods innicted losses on poor residents but they were still awaiting compensation.

`After the disaster the revenue department submitted a detailed report to the quarters concerned for compensation,` claimed Mr Gul, saying a PDMA team also visited the district to assess the losses, but the flood stricken people were yet to get compensation. He said the delay in financial assistance forced the affected people to get loans for rebuilding their damaged houses.

`The current monsoon season would add to the misery of the flood-hit residents, PPP leaders feared, demanding of the government to compensate the affected people.

UPLIFT PACKAGE DEMANDED: Haji Rozi Khan, senior vice-president of All Councillors ittehad, a rights body of local government representatives, has demanded of the prime minister to approve a mega uplift package for the district.

Speaking at a meeting in Langerkhel Hati Khan village on Sunday, he said Lalcl(i people were happy over openingofapassportofHcein the district and wanted the federal government to announce more development projects for the backward district.

He also hailed announcements made by the PML-N leader Amir Muqam regarding installation of two power feeders in 132KV Tajazai grid station, laying of 16km long gas pipeline in Lakki city and repairing and widening of the Indus Highway passingthroughthe southern districts. Correspondent
