Peace in Kashmir

2017-07-18
T HE present turmoil in Jammu and Kashmir is disturbing, and will move any human being to tears. I feel more anguish personally.

During my schooldays way back in the early 1990s, a family from Jammu and Kashmir came to settle in my hometown, Tuticorin, in Tamil Nadu.

I got the opportunity to interact with some members of this family. A schoolgirl among them would often talk longingly of Kashmir.

This was when I started to learn about Kashmir and developed an admiration for the land and its people.

Today, unfortunately, Kashmir is in the throes of great unrest. A humane solution is the need of the hour. The Indian government must wake up to the reality in Jammu and Kashmir and take steps to open the doors of education, growth, employment and business development for the youth and people of Kashmir. A good rapport with Pakistan in this respect would also help resolve the issue P. Senthil Saravana Durai Mumbai, India
