LB by-polls in Bajaur to be held on Aug 27

BAJAUR: The election commission has issued the schedule for the by-elections to be held on several vacant seats of local government in Bajaur tribal district on Aug 27.

According to a statement issued from the office of the district election commissioner, certain seats had been lying vacant for past several months.

It said district returning officer and returning officers had alsobeen appointedforthe purpose.

As per the schedule, the statement said candidates could submit their nomination papers from July 17 to 19, while the list of nominees would be issued on July 20. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held from July 21 to 24.

Election symbols to the candidates would be allotted on August 3, and final list of the nominees would be displayed the next day.

The statement said there were total 18 vacant seats of village and neighbourhood councils in Bajaur, including 16 women councillors and two youth councillors.

The election watchdog`s statement said as per the laws of the commission, no public representative would be allowed to announce any development scheme in the areas till the conduct of the by-elections on August 27.

TWO INJURED: Two people were injured in festive firing during a wedding ceremony here, Rescue 1122 said on Monday in a statement.

It said the incident occurred in Haiyati area of Utmankhel tehsil on Sunday night after someone started firing in the air during a wedding ceremony.

The statement said both of the injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Khar, for treatment.

The police said they had launched efforts for the arrest of the people involved in the firing.
