LAHORE: Aleema Khan, the sister of incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan on Thursday skipped hearing at the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) regarding allegations of being involved in “anti-state activities through social media platforms”.
The NCCIA’s notice was issued to Ms Khan a day after she conveyed the party her brother’s message that if anything happened to Imran Khan in jail, it should hold a “powerful person” accountable. A counsel for Ms Khan appeared before the NCCIA in Lahore and told it that she was in Islamabad therefore she could not attend the hearing.
The NCCIA is likely to issue another notice to her to appear before it to defend herself against the allegations. It has issued her notice under an inquiry dated May 27, 2025. In a post on X on Wednesday Imran Khan had also asked his party members to hold the powerful person accountable if anything happens to him in jail.
“In recent days, the harsh treatment I face in jail has intensified. The same applies to my wife, Bushra Bibi. Even the television in her cell has been switched off. All basic rights – both human and those legally granted to prisoners – have been suspended for both of us. There must be accountability for this. I am fully aware that a Colonel and Jail Superintendent Anjum are carrying out these actions on the orders of (the powerful person). Therefore, I give clear instructions to my party – if anything happens to me in jail, (those responsible) must be held accountable,” he said.
Khan has been in jail for the last two years and he has given a countrywide protest movement against the government from Aug 5.
