PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi has called a session of the KP Assembly on Sunday, said an official notification.
`In exercise of the powers conferred by the clause (a) of Article 109 of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan 1973, I, Faisal Karim Kundi, Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, hereby summon the Provincial Assembly, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to meet on Sunday, the 20th July, 2025 at 0900 hours in the Assembly building of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,` said a notification issued by the governor secretariat on Thursday.
The governor called the session after receiving a summary from the KP chief minister`s secretariat.
On Wednesday, the KP minister for law and parliamentary affairs, Aftab Alam Afridi, said that the session was called in connection with Senate polls scheduled for July 21. Sources however hinted at the possibility of the swearing-in of the lawmakers, elected on seats reserved for women and non-Muslims as well.
The KP Assembly`s last sitting was held on June 25 to approve Rs240 billion supplementary budget for the financial year 2024-25 and all the demands for grants and the sitting was adjourned for July 1.
With developments on June 27, when the constitutional bench overturned Supreme Court`s earlier judgement in the reserved seats case, effectively taking away reserved seats from Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and handing them over to other parties in national and provincial assemblies, the KP Assembly session was prorogued on June 27 and that too through a backdated notification of June 26 which, sources claimed, was an attempt to delay the oath-taking of the lawmakers-elect on reserved seats.
