Japan`s help sought for revival of industry

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry has sought support from the government of Japan in revival of the local industry, establishment of an industrial estate at the Pak-Afghan border and construction of another tunnel at Kohat to ease traffic pressure on the existing tunnel.
The demands were raised by KPCCI president Fuad Ishaq during the visit of Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan, Hiroshi Inomata, to the chamber here on Thursday. Portugal Ambassador Joao Paulo Sabido Costa also visited the chamber.
Mr Ishaq stressed the need for improvement of the bilateral trade activities between Pakistan and Japan, and sought Japan`s support in provision of modern technology, industrialisation and other sectors, including energy, mining, transport, pharmaceutical, agriculture, food processing, light engineering and reconstruction of infrastructure of the schools and hospitals destroyed during the fight against terrorism.
The KPCCI leader also urged the Portubal ambassador to play his role for improvement of the bilateral trade between Pakistan and his country. Besides wife of the Japanese ambassador, KPCCI vice-president Iqbal Khan Afridi and Japan`s honourary Consul General in Peshawar Fazal Karim Afridi were also present on the occasion.
Mr Ishaq briefed the envoys about the hydel power generation potential, minerals, valuable stones, marble, timber and other natural resources available in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said that KP had vast opportunities for the foreign investors in different sectors and urged them to take advantage of the relief packages announced by the federal government for the province.
